Claude Guillemot, who co-founded the renowned video game company Ubisoft, passed away on Friday at the age of 69.
According to reports from French media outlets, Guillemot tragically lost his life in a plane crash in La Baule, a popular resort town in France. He was one of two individuals on board the aircraft, and both did not survive the incident.
Guillemot, along with his four brothers, established Ubisoft in 1986. Under their leadership, the company became a major player in the gaming industry, launching well-known franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Prince of Persia, and Tom Clancy’s series, among numerous other titles. The Guillemot family continues to hold control of Ubisoft, with Yves Guillemot, Claude’s brother, serving as the current CEO.
In addition to his role at Ubisoft, Claude Guillemot also served as chairman of Guillemot Corp., a company that specializes in gaming and audio accessories.
Ubisoft expressed its sorrow in a statement, saying, “Ubisoft was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and chairman of Guillemot Corp., in an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. No further statements will be made at this time.”
