Amazon announced on Thursday the integration of its Luna cloud gaming service into Prime Video, allowing users to access games such as “Hogwarts Legacy,” “EA Sports FC 26,” “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” “Clue,” and “Taboo” directly on their Fire TVs in the U.S. and U.K., starting today.
This initiative aims to transform Prime Video into a comprehensive entertainment hub, following a similar strategy employed by Netflix, which has increasingly incorporated games into its offerings over recent years. Given Amazon’s existing gaming service, the integration into its streaming platform seems a natural progression.
The new games library will not only include third-party titles and cult classics like “Taboo,” but also feature games developed by Amazon’s gaming division, such as “Courtroom Chaos” and the co-op card battler “Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite.”
Previously, Luna games were accessible only through a standalone app available to Prime members, but now they can be enjoyed alongside the movies and TV shows available on Prime Video.
Amazon envisions this move as a way to eliminate barriers to gaming, making it accessible to a wider audience regardless of their prior experience or budget. The company emphasizes that Luna aims to broaden the gaming demographic by removing the necessity for costly consoles or gaming PCs, positioning games to be as easily accessible as movies or TV shows.
Prime members can now find a new “Games” tab on Prime Video, allowing them to start playing using a controller or their mobile phones.
Jeff Gattis, general manager of gaming at Amazon, stated in a press release, “For a lot of people, games have been harder to find than they should be. Bringing Luna inside Prime Video allows Prime members to discover games more naturally, and if they see one they like, they click it and they’re in. That’s less time searching and more time playing great games included with their Prime membership.”
Amazon plans to introduce new games monthly and aims to expand the availability of games to additional devices and countries in the upcoming months.
